We are NEST, a non-profit, HUD certified, NeighborWorks America affiliate organization with a passion for creating homeowners and revitalizing neighborhoods. We’re obsessively passionate about it, and our mission is to help people and communities achieve it.

We believe affordable housing is a basic right and the infrastructure people need to elevate their family. It is an investment in family stability, children’s success, and economic health.
Our goal is to ensure successful, sustainable homeownership for people of all income levels and backgrounds. Our certified counselors will educate and provide one-on-one assistance that will equip you with the tools, capacity, and options to make sound decisions for building a brighter future.
We believe in the transformative power of architecture and quality design and their ability to elevate one’s experience within their home and throughout their community. We not only make the best homes, but also utilize renewable energy systems that will minimize annual utility cost, truly redefining the definition of affordable.

Our Story
Founded in 1980, NEST (formerly known as Neighborhood Housing Services of Waterbury) recognized the vital housing needs of the community, and has since provided housing counseling, foreclosure prevention, and landlord education to residents throughout Connecticut and beyond.
Since it's founding, NEST has grown to include community building, grantmaking, and lending and expanded our services beyond the borders of Waterbury. From this shift, NEST was born to address these simple objectives - create neighborhoods of choice, not circumstances; create opportunities for people to live in affordable, quality homes; and strengthen communities.
Since our founding, some things have changed yet one thing will forever remain constant- we provide all with great service, we care about where you call home, and we want our community and neighborhoods to thrive.
OUR PEOPLE
Our staff and board are some of the brightest and compassionate people around. We aren’t just “part of the team”, we are stakeholders too. Most of us live within the NEST service area creating a unique perspective and understanding of the local housing needs.
